My name is Shawn Farester, a sculptor from Kittanning, Pennsylvania. I blend the bold energy of chainsaw carving with the refined principles of classical art. My work explores the intersection of nature and humanity, combining the physical characteristics of animals with vivid human expressions to tell stories that are both playful and thought-provoking. Each piece I create is more than a sculpture—it’s a narrative brought to life through wood or metal, designed to evoke curiosity, spark emotion, and invite connection.
Growing up in a rural community and navigating the challenges of learning disabilities, I found art to be my voice and my way of engaging with the world. Working with reclaimed materials, I honor nature by giving new purpose to discarded wood, imbuing each sculpture with an environmental ethos. Chainsaw carving, a traditional American craft, is my medium of choice, allowing me to bridge folk art traditions with the innovation of contemporary art.
My work has been showcased at local events like the Ridgeway Chainsaw Rendezvous and nationally at venues such as Art Miami. Through my art, I aim to inspire moments of reflection and joy, connecting viewers to the beauty and complexity of the natural world and the stories it inspires.
